FRIENDS OF SHILOH GARDEN ANNOUNCES REDUCED OPERATING HOURS

Friends of Shiloh Garden is facing tough times due to extreme heat, high water bills, and other financial challenges. The Board of Directors made the decision to scale back operations to manage these costs temporarily. This decision means the focus is on maintaining the fields and current harvests. The main goal is to reduce expenses during this difficult period.

The Board of Directors is dedicated to raising more funds and building a sustainable plan for the future. Friends of Shiloh Garden will return to full capacity as soon as possible to continue its mission of serving the hungry in our community.

Shiloh Field was founded by Gene Gumfory in 2011 with a simple mission: to feed the hungry. Friends of Shiloh Garden was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2019 to continue Mr. Gumfory’s legacy. In 2022, over 53,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables were harvested and delivered to local partner agencies, including Denton Community Food Center, Freedom House Pantry, the Denton Senior Center, Cumberland Family Services, Friends of the Family, Our Daily Bread, and more.

According to Serve Denton, 21% of people in Denton County experience food insecurity. The fresh, locally grown produce provided by the Garden keeps our neighbors fed and reduces costs for our local agencies.

The new operating hours will be Thursdays and Saturdays from 6:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Volunteers are encouraged to come at these times to harvest crops and maintain the Garden. Visit shilohfield.com/volunteer to sign up as an individual or group.

Supporters can make donations securely online at shilohfield.com/give or by mailing a check to P.O. Box 3037, Denton, TX 76202.
